Repair and Recycle
To Repair is Green!
An amazing amount of stuff is thrown away in this country, filling up our landfills at an alarming rate. Major appliances last about 10 years and the average person will throw away a couple dozen or more of them in their lifetime. If the service life can be extended by another five years by regular repair and maintenance, this waste would be greatly reduced.
People often ask me if their appliance is worth repairing or if they should just throw it away and get a new one. This is not always an easy question to answer. Most people understand the economical aspect but the environmental impact is also important to consider. Howard’s Appliance Service will make every effort to affordably extend the lifetime of your appliances and help keep them out of the landfills and junkyards.
If an appliance is beyond repair, we greatly encourage recycling of the metals and recoverable materials whenever possible. We are also EPA certified for the recovery of CFCs. If we can get just a few people to think about their impact here on earth when making decisions about their appliances, we’ll be happy!
